When I researched for my first post about Bob Ross, I discovered that you can visit the studio where he filmed The Joy of Painting.
The Bob Ross Experience is part of the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens in Muncie, Indiana. Minnetrista sits on the property where the Ball family – founders of the famous Ball mason jars – lived.
Many of the original houses are still standing. One of the houses is the site of Bob Ross’ studio and another house is set up as a Ball family museum. I stopped for Bob Ross and discovered the Ball family on the same visit – so fun!
Joy of Painting Filming Studio
Bob had originally designed a set that was an elaborate trapper’s log cabin, complete with snowshoes and a bear pelt hanging on the wall. Exactly what you would imagine the interior of any cabin he painted to look like.
Ultimately he decided that he preferred a more intimate experience for the audience and switched to the bare-bones studio that included just an easel against black curtains.
Bob Ross’ studio was simple. No frills. Just Bob and you. Magic!
Learn more about Bob Ross
You can learn more about Bob’s history on my other post – Happy Little Trees. What was his background? How did he get started painting? Where can you see his paintings on display (other than at this museum in Muncie)?
And with that, I will end this with a positive affirmation from Bob Ross himself…
